frequently asked questions about horse photography

What you need to know about your Equine Photography shooting.

Before your horse photoshoot, it is completely natural to have questions.

Whether you are planning your first horse photography session or you have already experienced a photoshoot before, there are always small details that can make a difference. From choosing the right location to understanding how the process works and what to expect afterwards, every step should feel clear and easy.

In this section, you will find answers to the most common questions about horse photography in Denmark and Northern Germany. My goal is not only to give you information, but also to create a feeling of calm and trust before your session even begins.

Because your horse photoshoot should never feel complicated or uncertain. It should feel like something you can look forward to with ease.

 FAQs

  • You can book your horse photoshoot by sending me a message through my contact form or by email. I offer natural and emotional horse photography in Denmark and Northern Germany, and every session is planned personally and with great care.

Once I receive your request, we talk about your wishes, possible locations and everything that feels important to you. If it feels right, we will find a date together and begin shaping your photoshoot.

  • I recommend booking your horse photoshoot a few weeks in advance, especially during spring, summer and early autumn, as these seasons are often the most popular for outdoor horse photography.

That said, if you have a more spontaneous idea in mind, you are always welcome to reach out. Sometimes there are still dates available at shorter notice.

  • Your horse photoshoot can take place at a location that feels right for you and your horse. I work across Denmark and Northern Germany and I am always happy to help you choose a place that matches the atmosphere you are looking for.

Whether that is near your stable, at the beach, in open landscapes or in a more hidden and quiet setting, the location should always support the feeling of the images without taking over.

  • That is completely okay.

A horse photoshoot does not require your horse to behave in a certain way or to have any kind of experience. I work calmly and with patience, always adapting to your horse and the rhythm of the moment.

Some of the most meaningful images happen in the quiet in between moments, when nothing is forced and everything is simply allowed to unfold naturally.

  • No, there is no time limit.

This is one of the most important parts of my work, because I never want your horse photoshoot to feel rushed or pressured. We take the time your horse needs, and we allow everything to happen in a calm and natural way.

That slower rhythm often changes the whole experience. Your horse settles, you settle, and the images become something that feels much more honest and real.

  • Yes, absolutely.

The connection between you and your horse is often at the heart of the session, and those are usually the moments that feel the most meaningful later on. You do not need to know how to pose or what to do. I guide you gently where needed and otherwise allow things to unfold naturally.

  • Yes, always.

All your own animals and family members are welcome in your horse photoshoot at no additional cost. If they belong to your story, they are part of it. I never want you to feel like you have to leave meaningful parts of your life behind just to make a session fit into a package.

That includes additional horses, dogs and close family members.

  • Bad weather does not always mean that a photoshoot has to be cancelled.

Some of the most beautiful and emotional images can happen in soft rain, moody skies or changing weather. There is something very honest and atmospheric about those moments, and sometimes they create an even deeper feeling than bright sunshine ever could.

At the same time, I know that not every weather situation feels right for every horse, every location or every idea. If the weather does not fit, I always offer to reschedule your horse photoshoot free of charge. What matters most is that the experience feels good for you and your horse.

  • You choose your package before the photoshoot.

This gives us a clear starting point and allows everything to feel simple and settled from the beginning. The package you choose is fixed for the session, which means that upgrades to a larger package are no longer possible afterwards.

However, you can always order additional single images or the full gallery later on, even long after your session. Some clients return after weeks, others after months or even years, and that is completely fine.

  • Yes, at any time.

After your horse photoshoot, your private gallery remains a safe place for your memories. You can return to it later and order additional images whenever you feel ready. That includes both single images and the full gallery.

No images will be deleted after a short period of time. Your memories stay safely available, so you never have to feel pressure to decide everything at once.

  • Your private online gallery usually contains around 200 to 500 images, depending on the session.

This gallery allows you to see the full story of your horse photoshoot and to take your time choosing the images that truly speak to you.

  • Lightly edited images are base edited. This means that light, colors and the overall look are adjusted to match my photographic style, so the gallery feels cohesive and true to the atmosphere of your session.

Fully edited images go one step further. This is where the retouching process begins. Halters, fences or other distracting elements can be removed, and the image is refined overall so it feels more polished, harmonious and complete.

If you would like to understand this process in more detail, I also offer a separate page with explanations and examples, which you can explore here.

  • After your horse photoshoot, you will receive access to a private online gallery where you can look through all selected images in your own time.

You can mark your favorites and choose the ones that feel most meaningful to you. If you feel unsure or overwhelmed by the selection, I am always there to help and guide you through it.

  • Yes, absolutely.

The packages The Connection and The Story already include fine art prints in 13x19 cm. With The Story, you will also receive additional prints in 20x30 cm.

These prints are delivered to your home in a lovingly packaged parcel, so your memories become something you can truly hold in your hands.

In addition, your gallery includes access to an optional integrated shop where you can order further formats, canvases, photo books and other high quality photo products whenever you like.

  • Travel within Sønderjylland and all locations within about one hour of Tønder, including nearby areas in Germany, is included without additional travel fees.

For locations further away, a transparent travel fee applies depending on distance. This will always be communicated clearly in advance, so you know exactly what to expect.

  • No.

While horse photography is at the heart of my work, I also photograph dogs, couples and families as well as weddings in the same calm and natural way. The focus is always on real connection and on creating images that feel personal and honest.

  • Yes, I do.

If you are a photographer and want to learn from me, I offer personal coaching sessions as well as one to one mentoring over a longer period of time. These are designed for photographers who want to work more intentionally, refine their editing, strengthen their style and build something that feels truly their own.

If that speaks to you, you can find more information on my coaching and mentoring pages.

  • Your gallery is usually ready within about one week after your horse photoshoot.

Once you have chosen your favorite images, I begin the final editing process. Delivery time for the finished images depends slightly on the package and season, but I will always keep you informed along the way.

  • That is much more common than you might think.

Most of the people I photograph are not used to being in front of a camera, and that is completely okay. You do not need to know what to do or how to pose. My work is built around creating an atmosphere where you can slowly relax into the moment instead of performing for it.

The most beautiful images are rarely the ones that are perfectly planned. They are the ones where you begin to forget the camera is even there.

  • No.

You do not need to arrive with everything figured out. I support you before your horse photoshoot with guidance on location, outfit and preparation, and we go through the final details together before the session.

You do not need perfection. You only need to arrive as you are.

A horse photoshoot is never just about photos.

It is about the time you share, the feeling you carry with you afterwards and the memories that remain long after the day itself has passed. My work is there to hold those moments in a way that feels calm, honest and true to you.
